Magento with Windows IIS

Magento has been around at the market for some time and it has become popular. The application is designed to run well in Linux environment but it also works with Windows. There’s not much installation notes at the Magento Wiki. As I try to poke around to get it up and running on the Windows 2003 running IIS6, I came across with some issues.

Some googling around I have came across this “Guide to Successfull Magento installation @ IIS” which I have found it has all the things you need to pick up. Take note about the PHP configuration on the IIS, if you are not able to make it work with the ISAPI option, try change it to the php-cgi.exe module. Have fun!

    Hi Andy,

As per the requirements mentioned on Magento website at http://www.magentocommerce.com/product/features, this product is supposed to work under Linux environment. However, I notice that ASPHostCentral (http://www.asphostcentral.com) is also offering this ecommerce product on MS Windows.

I then tried to install this application under their environment and surprisingly, it is working without any problems. In fact, they provide me a one-minute installation tool via their control panel so that I can directly install Magento without any ‘hard work’. Excellent, it is just excellent to see that this application CAN work on Windows-based environment.

So far, my site has run for about 6 months without any big problems. I, sometimes, can see few glitches on the site (such as weird error messages came out), but it is just a minor issue. Overall, I am impressed with this application and I am extremely delighted, in particular that I just need to pay $4.99/month to host this excellent application.

    Viva forever, Magento!!!!
